“As leaders in education, our job is not to control those whom we serve, but to unleash their talent. If innovation is going to be a priority in education, we need to create a culture where trust is the norm.”
-GEORGE COUROS-
LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY
School Leadership consists of three major components. First, our focus should be to teach the whole child. From elementary to secondary education, we must be aware of not only the academic needs of our students, but also their social and emotional well-being. Second, a school leader needs to be an instructional leader for colleagues. This means being innovative and taking risks in the classroom. As a school leader, it is my job to encourage teachers to take chances and try new things in their classrooms to serve their students. Through professional development opportunities and highlighting best practices in education, our staff can help students reach their full potential. Third, school leadership is all about relationships. To be successful at this job, a school leader must always make connections with teachers, staff, and most importantly the students. Students may not remember every bit of content they were taught in school. However, they will remember how they felt while attending our schools. As a school leader, teaching to the whole student, being an instructional leader of teachers, and forming authentic relationships all lead to successful outcomes for our students.
